The Helpless Soft Robot

ArT Students Paper accepted at CHI 2019

Last modified: 13.03.2019

Anna Dagmar Bille Milthers, Anne Bjerre Hammer, Jonathan Jung Johansen and Lasse Goul Jensen managed to get a Late Breaking Work paper accepted at the leading conference in the field of Human Computer Interaction, ACM CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems.

In their work they investigated the influence of two movement patterns on the willingness of random passersby to assist a soft robot in completing a task. Beside the design of the movement patterns of a Soft Robot they present a preliminary evaluation of an investigation method for studying nonverbal signaling methods for soft robots.  The preliminary results indicate that when the Soft Robot is “struggling” more, passersby are more willing to help the robot.

Their work – a result of the 5th Semester Course on Multimedia Programming, and that has been compiled together with the Associate Professors Elizabeth Ann Jochum and Markus Löchtefeld – will be presented on the 8th of May 2019 in Glasgow.

The paper will be online in May: DOI: https://doi.org/10.1145/3290607.3312807
