"Surveillance Technology & Performance"

If surveillance, then performance? In "Surveillance Technology & Performance," Prof. Bay-Cheng considers how contemporary tracking technology and social media are turning digital domains and daily life into performance spaces. She traces this technology in theory and practice to the era of satellites and looks at how contemporary performance artists are working with and against these technologies in contemporary art practice.

Sarah Bay-Cheng is Professor of Theatre and Director of Graduate Studies in Theatre & Performance at the University at Buffalo. She also serves as the Founding Director of the Techne Institute for Arts and Emerging Technologies and is a co-founding member of the Intermedia Performance Studio at UB. Her publications include the co-edited Mapping Intermediality in Performance (2010) and the forthcoming co-authored book, Performance and Media: Taxonomies for a Changing Field (2015).
